Description

Debra Sloan, FRUITS, 2020. Bowl 25cm diameter  x 25cm H.  Press moulded earthenware bowl and fruits, and slip cast porcelain heads, Objects loosely arranged. Writing on side of the bowl, “The woodbine spices are wafted abroad, the musk of the rose is blown.”

Debra Sloan started her practice in 1973, graduated from VSA in 1982, and attained her BFA in 2005.  She is a teacher, adjudicator, writer, and she has served on provincial craft boards. Her work is exhibited and collected regionally, nationally, and internationally. She has attended international residencies and a year-long residency at the UBC MOA. Her work can be found in the collections of the UBC Museum of Anthropology, the Leach Pottery- UK, the International Ceramics Studio, Hungary,  Shigaraki Cultural Park, Japan, Changchun, China, Ceremart Collection,  Romania, Slovenian National Museum,  Latvian Centre,  City of Port Moody, City of Coquitlam, UBC Library, and in private collections worldwide. In 2015 she received the Hilde Gerson Award and the Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award.  .
