Robin Hopper was an internationally recognized artist, potter, teacher, and author best known for using the surface of the as canvas, painting with coloured slips and glazes to create abstract landscapes. Born in England in 1939, he studied at Croydon College of Art. In 1968, he immigrated with his first wife, Sue Hara, and taught throughout Canada, England, U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea, Japan and Israel. His works can be found in corporate, public and private collections worldwide. In 1977, he received the Saidye Bronfman Award.

Robin conducted historical and technical research throughout his career. He was the author of many how-to videos and technical books, including The Ceramic Spectrum. By 1984, Robin and his second wife, Judi Dyelle, had established the Chosin Pottery in Metchosin. Also in 1984, he and Judi founded Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts (MISSA), and he was one of the founders of the still-active collective FIRED UP, Contemporary Works in Clay. Robin received the Order of Canada in 2017, the year of his death.
